THIS ONLY WORKS ON WINDOWS AND MAC OS DEVICES. THIS WILL NOT WORK WHEN USING A CHROMEBOOK.
When connecting to your virtual desktop from home if you need to connect a printer/scanner you can follow these steps below to enable the connection. You need to have the latest version of VMWare Horizon available with instructions here.
While you are connected to your virtual desktop, find the menu bar at the top of you screen and select Connect USB Device. A drop-down list should appear with the names of your connected USB devices.
Select the name of your printer/scanner. The device should now be installing on your virtual desktop. You can verify if it is connected by selecting Connect USB Device and you should see a check-mark next to the name of your device.
To disconnect the device from your virtual desktop, select Connect USB Device again and click on your device. This should disconnect it from your virtual desktop.
